Pistevo, Inc. Assembles Advisory Board Lead by John Fanning and Joe Abrams

Entrepreneurs behind Napster and MySpace are first to become official advisors to the background search technology company

03/17/2013 (press release: Pistevo) // Pistevo, Inc.

Today Pistevo, Inc., a provider of identity verification and background search technology, has announced the formation of a Strategic Advisory Board comprised of John Fanning, Founder and Chairman of Napster; and Joe Abrams, Co-Founder to the parent company of MySpace and Founder of The Software Toolworks. Together, Fanning and Abrams will use their extensive background in building successful Internet technology companies to guide Pistevo in all business matters.

Fanning has been a pioneer in Internet Technologies for over 20 years. In the late 1980s he built the first Internet chess server and holds patents for Real Time Search Engine and Use Sensitive Distribution of Data Files Between Users. Later, Fanning introduced such net-related innovations as client-server game play, voiceover IP and auto-upgrading/authentication. Since 1993, Fanning has founded numerous successful Internet ventures, including Napster, NetGames, NetMovies, and NetCapital. He attended Boston College and has a background in finance from work at Fidelity Investments.

“Immediately after being introduced to Pistevo I was very intrigued with what the company was doing in the field of background screening and identity verification,” says Fanning. “I became an Advisor to the company for two reasons. The first is a massive market that is in need of more security surrounding the initialization of relationships – whether it be personal or for business. The second thing I love about this company is the management team. Pistevo’s leaders are determined, focus, and when given an opportunity they execute.” Continuing he adds, “When you combine this massive market with a leadership team that I like personally, I think we have an opportunity for great success together.”

Abrams started his career as an entrepreneur in the early 1980s with The Software Toolworks, a personal computer entertainment and educational software company he founded with his cousin. After growing the company to over $150 million in revenue, The Software Toolworks was sold to Pearson, Plc. for $460 million. Following the company’s sale Abrams began working with small technology companies providing consulting in several areas, including strategy business development as both an investor and advisor. In 1999, he co-founded eUniverse, an early-stage Internet company. eUniverse was later renamed Intermix Media and was the parent company of the social network site MySpace. Intermix was sold to NewsCorp in 2005 for $560 million. Abrams holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from State University of New York at Buffalo and a MBA from the University of Rochester.

“We are honored to have some of the sharpest business minds on the planet investing their valuable time into making Pistevo a success,” says Mark Songer, CEO of Pistevo. “The invaluable input, ideas and expert advice received will help propel the company forward in our quest to become the go-to provider of background screening services for online dating websites, non-profit organizations, automotive retailers, care givers, real estate agents, and educational institutions.”

Pistevo anticipates the appointment of additional Strategic Advisory Board members over the next several months, further enhancing management’s ability to direct the future growth of the company.
