EmptyLemon tells jobseekers why you should avoid most recruitment agencies

Job board EmptyLemon advises most jobseekers to cut out the middle man and go straight to the employer if they want to find their perfect job.

EmptyLemon advocates a strict policy of putting jobseekers directly in touch with employers, aiming to cut out recruitment agencies completely when it comes to people searching and applying for jobs. Whilst the online job board recognises that recruitment agencies have their place, it suggests that jobseekers report common problems from experience with recruitment agencies.

Many jobseekers have negative experiences with recruitment agencies, claiming that they are fed up with having their time wasted by them. Thanks to recruitment agencies adopting a policy of ‘more contacts, more money’, many people are being approached for jobs that are irrelevant to the qualifications they possess. What’s more, jobseekers on Twitter have claimed that recruitment agencies harass them with phone calls and ‘put [them] forward for jobs over 90 miles away’.

Jobseekers make their CVs keyword rich, fully searchable, relevant to the position and write killer covering letters yet a large proportion hear no response. According to EmptyLemon, many recruitment agencies don’t spend time searching for the right people; they ‘throw mud at the wall to see what sticks’ and get jobseekers to apply for roles unsuited to them just to gain commission.

EmptyLemon warns that many recruitment agencies do little to actually help jobseekers, and have been known to post fake jobs to gain CVs for their database, not respond to unsuccessful candidates after interviews, not give the full job description prior to the interview and contact candidates with irrelevant jobs.

Dean Cleevely, National Sales Manager, said: “Here at EmptyLemon, we’ve all had bad experiences with recruitment agencies. That’s the reason we decided to set up our job board. We believe that providing jobseekers with direct contact with employers gives them a far better chance of securing a job and from the impressive response we’ve had on Twitter, it seems we’re not the only ones who believe that recruitment agencies can actually hinder, rather than help when it comes to job hunting.”

Due to phenomenal company expansion, the former IT job board went cross-sector in September 2012 to offer jobseekers a range of industry jobs including IT Jobs and Government Data Analyst Jobs to name a few. Jobseekers should search for Jobs Direct at EmptyLemon and cut out the middle man.
