No armed force is complete without a full array of completely functional, up-to-date set of vehicles to transport goods, supplies, weapons, and personnel on missions ranging from peace- keeping to border patrol to combat. The Royal Thai Army is equipped with a diverse force of light, medium, and heavy utility and combat vehicles meant to respond to and support a range of circumstances. Our country has purchased and maintained a wide swath of these sorts of vehicles over the course of our history from a diverse set of international allies. In a few cases, we have had commissions of our own origin and, in others, we’ve been able to make specific improvements on the original design.
Utility:
Humvee: The High Mobility Multipurpose Vehicle, colloquialized almost immediately as the Humvee, was initially created as an improvement on the old Jeep models that used to serve the same purpose for the United States. The Lamborghini corporation made a prototype model int he late 1970s, sold it to the Americans, and their engineers modified it to the light-armored vehicle in use by our armed forces.
Mercedes-Benz MB 230G: These German-made trucks were originally commissioned by the shah of Iran, then a major shareholder in car-maker Daimler-Benz, sometime in the 1970s. Daimler developed the G-class vehicles as light utility vehicles and, soon after its prototype was completed, the Islamic Revolution through the Shah out of power.
M151: The M151 MUTT was origianally developed as a replacement for the Utility Jeep models. While they’ve been in use in some form or another since the ‘50’s, their manufacture and upkeep has continued through the present day.
M813: The M813 6×6-wheel-drive truck is a fortified vehicle designed to transport either cargo or personnell.
M35 cargo truck: These 2 ½-ton cargo trucks have been in use for longer than most in modern military history. As the saying goes, it ain’t broke and don’t need fixing. This is one of the most reliable vehicles in modern military history. The entries below depict a number of the most up- to-date vehicles currently under service of the government and people of Thailand.
U1100/L 4×4: The Daimler Unimog trucks have been in use since 1946. it’s last 6760 years’s worth of remodeling and improvement have made it indispensable among military vehicles.
LMTV: The Light-Medium tactical vehicle has been in service throughout the world siince the early 1990s.
M911: THe 8×6 M911 is a transport truck that carries The Armed Forces’ heaviest equipment to their necessary locations.
Armored Fighters
M48A5 Patton: The Patton tanks were named after American general george Patton, who fiercely advocated the use of tanks during ground warfare during his command. The M48A5 is the last model of its kind, designed to carry the ultra-heavy M-60 gun as well as a full crew.
T-84 Oplot-M: This Ukranian tank, the best of its kind in the T-80 series tanks, allows for mobility and sight lines that are far superior to most other tanks.
FV101 Scorpion CVR(T): This British reconnaissance vehicle served its native country for twenty years. We use them both for their intended purpose and as light tanks when necessary.
Stingray: This light tank was designed by the cadillac corporation in the ‘80’s in order to offer the world an agile, transportable tank. We bought 106 of them in 1988, and they remain among our most valued light tanks.
Condor: This German armored personnel carrier, built on the chassis of the UNIMOG family of vehicles, is expressly designed to transport arms, small mines, and shrapnel on an as-needed basis.
BTR-3E1: This heavily-armed, highly mobile tank was made in the Ukraine and is among one of the most popular tanks in our neighbor Myanmar’s armament.
Reva: The REVA APC is specifically designed to protect personnel against IEDs and land mines.
M113` A1/A3/A4: The M113-class personnel carriers, have been in use since the early 1960s and continue to be popular across the globe for its effective, transport of all sorts of soldiers.
M901A3: AN upgrade from your typical M90-class vehicles, the M901A3 is equipped with an M220A2 TOW 2 Anti-tank missle and advanced driving controls.
