nexMatrix Telecom is now accepting pre-orders for their newest PBX device, the µSOHO, a full-featured IP telephone appliance capable of handling up to 10 SIP extensions, built on the phenomenally successful Raspberry Pi hardware platform. This unit will eventually be sold directly to end-users through nexMatrix Value-Added-Resellers and a major distributor in early 2103, but a Release Candidate will be shipping in mid-December.
The new product is called µSOHO, and includes a setup wizard for ease of configuring extensions, auto-attendants, ring groups, dialplans and SIP trunks. An auto-provisioning feature for Grandstream phones will also be included along with the ability to use the PBX as a traditional key system. The Wizard can also be bypassed, and the µSOHO PBX can be programmed using the same easy-to-use interface that is the hallmark of the entire Protel PBX product line. The release candidate version of this PBX is being made available on a first-come, first-served basis to up to 75 test users at a substantial discount.
The µSOHO, which is manufactured in the U.S.A., is expected to have an MSRP of $349.99, and is designed to appeal to family power-users, home offices and small businesses with 10 or fewer extensions. A nexMatrix SIP trunk will be required for telephone service to the µSOHO, however the company will waive SIP account setup fees for testing community members.
Direct phone-in technical support will not be included for this product, however an on-line forum has been created in which nexMatrix staff and members of its reseller network will address technical questions. One incident support ticket will also be included for no additional charge. An optional training and support package can also be purchased with the µSOHO device.
According to Dianne Ursini, C.E.O. of nexMatrix, “The µSOHO PBX is one of the only commercially available products at this price point. When the final µSOHO PBX product is released to the public early next year, we believe that there will be numerous opportunities for telephone, technical services and IT professionals to provide value-added assistance to purchasers of this PBX. Many end-users will be able to configure their phone system on their own using the setup wizard application that will be included. We will be referring all end-user requests for technical support to our reseller partners,” she added.
