nexMatrix expands facilities in Nampa, ID

Manufacturing for the Protel PBX line will remain in the United States

10/15/2012 (press release: nexmatrix) // Nampa, Idaho, USA // Kevin McMahan

nexMatrix announced today that its manufacturing operations for the United States and Canada will remain in western Idaho. The company is expanding their product line and has acquired 2,000 square feet of additional space on 2nd Street South in the city of Nampa, about 20 miles west of Boise. The new facility will house assembly, firmware burn-in and shipping operations for their Protel premise IP-PBX equipment, including their newest offering, a home and small office unit code-named “Microbrew”.

nexMatrix had considered moving manufacturing facilities to other North American cities that offer attractive business development incentives, or even to overseas operations, but has decided to remain in Nampa’s quaint downtown district. According to company CEO, Dianne Ursini, the Nampa community remains an ideal location in which to scale up production of their telephony appliances, particularly since those operations do not require a great deal of floor space or an advanced technical workforce. nexMatrix continues to draw on trained development resources outside of the Idaho area for product design and ongoing technical enhancements.

“I believe that manufacturing needs to come back to the States while providing better functionality and price points against foreign competition from companies such as Mitel, Samsung, NEC and Panasonic, to name a few,” Ursini said. “It’s also about bringing some jobs back by applying superior American innovation, from the heartland of the United States,” she added.

According to Ursini, the current models of the Protel PBX will begin production in the new facility on October 15 of this year. The new Microbrew product is expected to be in full production by early 2013. Microbrew, which will be given a permanent name prior to final release, is a full-featured IP telephone control device, smaller than a pack of cigarettes, with an extensive array of built-in PBX functions. It will include a self-installation wizard and will be marketed to home and small office end users of up to 10 extensions.

According to Ursini, the company is also moving forward into the Australian and Pacific Rim market. Manufacturing for those areas is expected to take place in Adelaide, South Australia.
