Seven Payday Express staff spent a day at Foal Farm, an animal rescue centre in Biggin Hill, Kent, as part of the company’s Be Animal Friendly month – held throughout May.

The company arranged the volunteering day for Sunday May 20, 2012 and Payday Express staff signed up to help the farm’s regular staff and volunteers.

In addition to the volunteering day, the company, which offers online payday loans with no faxing of documents required, also arranged for three donation boxes to be placed around the office, in which staff members could put donations for the charity. The boxes, which the volunteers took with them to the farm, were generously filled by Payday Express staff, with everything from pet food, to toys, treats, blankets and beds, all to be given to the Foal Farm animals.

The volunteers – Laura Kent, Cigdem Husseyin, Therese Rydberg, Nicola Mitchell, Lauren Pettitt and Lauren Johnson – helped with gardening and painting, all to help maintain the animals’ living areas.

Contact centre administrator Nicola Mitchell said: “Our visit to Foal Farm was so rewarding. It’s satisfying to see the donations made by our staff going to such a worthy cause. The farm’s permanent volunteers are such an inspiration. Their dedication has encouraged me to make my own commitment to volunteer on a weekly basis.”

Foal Farm nurses distressed animals back to health, with the aim of re-homing them when the time is right. The farm is run solely on donations and all money goes directly on care for the animals.

A number of fund-raising days are being organised at the farm this year, including a fun day on July 7, where there will be stalls selling products such as plants and bric-a-brac. There will also be games to play and raffles to enter, with all money going towards keeping Foal Farm running.

Sarah Carroll, operations manager at the short term payday loan company, said “Payday Express fully supports and encourages staff contributions to community charities. Our staff regularly donate to charities, but it was great to see them take this a step further this month with the volunteer work at Foal Farm.

“Not only did the volunteers make a valuable contribution to this charity, but they also demonstrated great team work in the process,” she added.
