4th Annual American Council of the Blind Walk/Fun Run to Support Services for People Who Are Blind

/EINPresswire.com/ Louisville, KY – June 18, 2012 — The American Council of the Blind will hold its 4th annual Walk and Fun Run, on Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Seneca Park. The 5K walk/run event will raise funds to provide services to people who are blind; raise awareness of issues related to vision loss; and help to shape the Council’s vision of the future for all blind people: living lives with independence and dignity.

Check-in begins at 6:45 AM and the Walk/Fun Run begins at 7:30 AM. Registration online at www.acb.org is $25 per participant. All registrants will have the chance to win prizes and recognition will be given to the individual and the team raising the most funds, and the team having the most walk/runners. Also included are light refreshments and entertainment.

Dawne Gee, Louisville’s WAVE 3 News Co-Anchor is this year’s Walk Marshal. “Blindness may be labeled as a disability by some,” she states, “that’s true, but all it really means is any one visually impaired or blind may have to take a slightly different path than others. Join us as we walk to raise awareness and funds for our visually impaired or blind neighbors striving for independence, security, equality of opportunity, quality of life and all the things those of us that are sighted receive without a fight.”

Carla Ruschival, President of the Greater Louisville Council of the Blind reports, “We are happy to be hosting both the Walk/Fun Run and ACB’s Annual Conference and Convention, being held this year at the Galt House Hotel. These events are a real boost to people who are blind and also a real boost to Louisville’s economy.”
