Jubilee celebrations at a Chester car finance company did more than raise party spirits last week – the event also raised over £1,200 for a local hospice appeal.
The Funding Corporation declared a day of cheer and charity on the Friday before the extended holiday weekend, providing everyone with an early start to the festivities.
All 100-plus staff at their head office were encouraged to come patriotically dressed in union jack colours, and to show off their cooking skills with home-made cakes and savouries for the produce stall.
An Indian head masseur provided relaxing massage therapies in return for a charity donation, and a grand raffle offered a host of prizes – from holidays to hair treatments – donated by local firms.
The company’s Managing Director David Challinor even became a Masterchef-style judge to choose the winner of a baking challenge which had been cooked up for the occasion.
Also specially set up for the day at The Funding Corporation on Chester Business Park was a stand staffed by volunteers from the Hospice of the Good Shepherd in Backford, Chester.
They explained to staff the work of the hospice in caring for those living with incurable illnesses, and supporting their friends, families and carers.
The charity relies largely on donations from the local community to continue caring for the 1500 people from the Chester area which are helped by the hospice every year.
Company Marketing Manager Jane Whittle, who also heads the firm’s charity committee, said the event had proved a “huge success” in raising both smiles and cash.
