Mr. Sayan will discuss “The Future Challenges of Health Plans to Integrate with Public and Private Insurance Exchanges.” With tight timeframes looming and major components of the Affordable Care Act regulations still uncertain for health insurance carriers, many health plan executives have chosen to exercise prudence by ensuring their organizations’ readiness to participate on insurance Exchanges.
One of the key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) requires states to establish new insurance exchanges to allow individuals and small businesses to search for, compare and obtain healthcare insurance coverage that best meets their needs. But states also have wide discretion on how they create their individual insurance exchanges. As a result of this latitude, health insurers will face many challenges in the new competitive marketplace – not the least of which is operational connectivity to the insurance Exchanges.
