Pet Custody Agreements may seem odd to some, but many of Hollywood’s elite are finding this online form helpful (or wishing they had one when they needed it). Instead of–or because of–going through lengthy court battles to retain custody of their pets, celebrities are jumping at the opportunity to keep their furry friends under their care. No longer just reserved for Celebrities, regular Americans can now take steps to ensure legal pet ownership.

In a 2006 survey by the 1,600-member American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, a quarter of respondents said pet custody cases had increased noticeably since 2001. The academy is due for another survey, but there is no doubt such cases have grown steadily since then, said Ken Altshuler of Portland, Maine, a divorce attorney and AAML president.
