Sutter Health Patients’ Privacy Breached

Computer with personal and medical data on 3.3 million patients stolen, says San Francisco consumer protection lawyer Eric Grover.

After recent privacy breaches by Health Net and Stanford, Sutter Health has reported that a computer containing personal and medical information on 3.3 million patients was stolen. Shockingly, although the computer was password protected, the data files were not encrypted. As more and more highly sensitive medical information becomes computerized, it is critical that health care companies take stronger security measures to protect patients, states the San Francisco consumer protection lawyer.
