Filmmakers seeking financing for a film about homeless man team up with a tarp supplier to donate tarps to people living on the street. The nationwide tarp drives kick off in NYC.
/EINPresswire.com/ Independent filmmaker, Michael Stein and Tarp distributor Tarps Plus are helping an independent film get its message out and help the needy at the same time. They have set up tarp drives to bring awareness to the homeless and find investors for a film about someone who is homeless called “The Guitar Player.” Stein will not be taking any fees for writing, directing or acting in the film and will be donating half of any profits he may get to homeless charities.
The tarp drives will be held across the nation, including NYC on Sept. 26th at the Bowery Mission. One thousand poly tarps will be given out to people living on the streets. The tarps are a simple yet effective way for people to prevent hypothermia by keeping dry and warmer during the winter months.
Many people need a place to sleep as well as food and clothing. The shelters are nearly always full and there are many more people needing assistance.
The film’s mission is to get the production funded by the public in conjunction with a film company willing to join forces with the filmmakers. Stein would take half of any profits that he would earn and use those to fund various programs designed to assist homeless causes. Due to many budget cuts and cuts in governmental funding, many of the existing programs are not able to provide as much assistance as is needed.
The more money the film receives in donations the bigger the film can grow. As the project grows the benefits to the homeless cause will also increase.
Stein stated, “The tarp drives are a way to bring awareness about our film’s production as well as aiding the homeless at the same time. The tarps will help people on the street during the winter months.”
