Batavia, IL man invents world’s first Internet connected sump pump system

New internet connected sump pump system. iControl keeps the pumps going when the power is out, and it is connected to the internet so you can take action.

08/10/2011 // Lake Zurich, Illinois, USA // News // Jeff Sloss, President of Basement Flood Protector, Inc – www.floodnot.com

With patents pending, this technology, an internet connected sump pump is a first. Having spent most of his life in the sump pump business, Floodnot CEO, Jeff Sloss had heard every reason why people’s basements flood. Most think it’s power outage. But Jeff insists that the “fixable unknowns” cause far more disasters. Jeff says, “Every day we speak with people that lament, ‘If I had only known!’ So we designed our newest product around that exact premise.” Floodnot makes a new sump pump system called the iControl that not only keeps the pumps going when the power is out, it also self-tests, sends email and text alarm notifications, and, most significantly, is connected to the internet!

So what advantage is an internet connected sump pump? Jeff says people joke that with an internet connection, they can see from Florida that their basement is flooding. But he says that sarcasm is missing the point. “What the internet connectivity gives homeowners is complete control over alarms, testing, status, and configuration – just as if they are standing in front of it. They have the ability to take action and make decisions. It’s an enormous advancement in technology that nobody else offers.” Jeff adds, “I don’t understand why anyone would buy any other ‘so-called’ premium system? They have less capacity, require a phone line, aren’t configurable, and have no remote access – handicapping flood prevention abilities. The iControl is a total no-brainer, not to mention the fact that DataPump and Classic systems are also American made and upgradable.”

So the question is: Has basement flooding been solved, eradicated, and completely ended? Sloss thinks so and the insurance industry and plumbing professionals seem to agree. Sloss’ system is in such high demand that Floodnot has had to limit the number of resellers until upgrades to production are able to be implemented, far ahead of the forecasted dates. The iControl is made in the USA with multiple patents pending. iControl, the internet connected sump pump.
