Study: Foodborne Illnesses Could be Lurking in Brown Bag Lunches

Not keeping lunches packed at home to school at safe temperatures could breed foodborne illnesses.

Parents can help combat this threat by packing their child’s lunches in an insulated lunch box, with a frozen ice pack. If available, children should also store their lunches in a refrigerator during the school day. In addition, parents can also pack foods that aren’t susceptible to spoilage, like fruits, nuts, peanut butter, and other items that necessarily don’t need to be refrigerated.
