Hollywood, California-An electronic cigarette industry icon named Andy Gray made a bold proclamation about six months ago, by predicting that “celebrity endorsements are next in the world of electronic cigarettes.” While this prediction may have yet to ring true in a true paid endorsement, the blockbuster movie “The Tourist” features Johnny Depp’s character puffing on an e cigarette in various scenes.
The electronic cigarette is a breakthrough product designed to give off the physical action of smoking a tobacco cigarette, only with many new advances. For starters, the electronic or “e-cigarette” as it’s commonly called, does not contain tobacco, tar, or many of the carcinogens that are present in tobacco cigarettes. More importantly, the e-cigarette emits no foul odors or second hand smoke. This makes the flameless smoking device perfectly legal and permissible to smoke establishments that outlaw traditional smoking.
The device works with a battery, which heats up a nicotine (or nicotine-free) substance in a chamber called an atomizer. Once this is heated, a large amount of vapor is pushed through the end of the cigarette as the users puffs or “smokes” the device. The battery is connected to a piece called a cartridge or “cartomizer” which is the only part of the device which needs to be replaced. Most companies state that their devices give the user about 200-300 puffs.
While the industry and awareness of e-cigarettes has grown dramatically over the last two years, Gray has covered the rise of the industry on his popular e-cigarette review blog.
