In a newly released video on YouTube, Naturopathic Doctor Shannon Sinsheimer shares how she successfully treats Asthma with Naturopathic Medicine.
Asthma is when the lungs produce excess mucus and cause a feeling of constriction, thereby not allowing proper breathing or an ability to take full, deep breathes. The two types of asthma are: extrinsic and intrinsic. One is caused by an immune system that produces excess mucus and lung constriction while the other is a problem when a person breathes in cold air, breathes in a chemical agent, or exercises too much, causing restriction within the lungs.
Asthma typically begins early in childhood. Some of the causative factors include genetics; secondhand smoke exposure during childhood; exposure to environmental molds, allergens, or pollutants; food sensitivities; multiple antibiotic prescriptions before the age of one; and multiple vaccines.
Dr. Sinsheimer says, “Asthma is a condition in which the body’s immune system inappropriately responds to the environment, so my goal with treatment is to control the body’s inappropriate response by introducing anti-inflammatory nutrients and removing dietary irritants.”
Dietary irritants include diary, wheat, gluten-containing foods, soy, eggs, white potatoes, nightshades, red meat, and caffeinated products. Patients are advised to avoid irritant foods and instead to eat organic foods such as green vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Nutritional supplements such as fish oil, Vitamin C, probiotics and magnesium are also prescribed. Drinking only pure filtered water is important.
“Asthma is difficult to treat; however, when patients follow my protocol, they have a decreased number of asthma attacks, decreased severity of those attacks, and rarely do they need their inhaler,” says Naturopathic Doctor Shannon Sinsheimer.
