US Cigarette Packages Will Display Graphic Warnings

Nov. 15, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – New legislation from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandates that cigarette companies include graphic warnings on cigarette packages and advertisements by Oct. 22, 2011.

The FDA move requires that half of the front and back of cigarette packages and the top 20 percent of cigarette advertisements display the graphic warning.

The graphic warning will exhibit drawings or photos that explicitly illustrate the health risks associated with smoking. Some possible graphics may include images of a diseased lung or a corpse. In addition, the graphic will be supplemented by text stating that tobacco is addictive and kills.

The aim of the new legislation is to scare people from beginning to smoke and encourage people trying to quit.
