Nov. 10, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – More eggs have been recalled due to the most current bout between producers and health officials.
Mississippi-based Cal-Maine Foods, Inc. said an additional 120 dozen shell eggs have the potential to be contaminated with salmonella enteritidis and added those to the 24,000 dozen in an initial recall. In all, about 300,000 eggs have now been ordered off the shelves.
The latest batch recall affects Pippin Loose Medium eggs with a plant number of 1457, a Julian date of 282 and a sell-by date of Nov. 7, 2010. Eggs in the earlier recall were sold under the brands James Farm, Springfield Farms, Sun Valley and Sunny Meadow and had sell-by dates ranging from Nov. 7 to Nov. 24.
Cal-Maine bought the eggs from Ohio Fresh of Croton, Ohio, and 12, 2010, and distributed them in Arkansas, California, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
This recall follows the recall of 500 million eggs last summer when two Iowa producers were found having shipped contaminated eggs. The producers in the larger recall, Orland Bethel and Austin DeCoster, have been cited multiple times for unsanitary poultry conditions. The same two producers are financially involved with Ohio Fresh Eggs, the source of the latest recall.
