Department of Justice to Talk with China about Nobel Dissident

Oct 19, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ – During his upcoming visit to China, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder will discuss with the Chinese government the human rights issue behind the imprisonment of recent Nobel Prize Laureate Liu Xiaobo. Holder echoed the previous remarks of President Obama in calling for China to honor the international human rights standards that it is obligated to uphold.

Holder will be visiting China in order to strengthen diplomatic relations with the government, especially regarding the issues of intellectual property rights and the counterfeit production market in the country. While he said that the topic of Liu Xiaobo would come up during negotiations, Holder reiterated that this issue with the Chinese government would not be the major focal point of discussions.

Last month, the Nobel Peace Prize Committee awarded Liu Xiaobo the award for his 11-year jail sentence for speaking out against the government of China.
