Produce Exporters Heighten Focus on Food Safety

Oct 8, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ — Countries that export fresh produce to the United States are paying closer attention to the prevention of food-borne illnesses, according to a recently released report.

The 175-page report from The Produce Safety Project at Georgetown University examines improved safety protocols in Canada, Chile, Mexico and Peru. Most of the countries mentioned in the report are actively involved in developing food certification plans for farms, packing houses, storage facilities and exporters.

The Produce Safety Project hopes the report will make lawmakers aware of recent food reforms overseas and help to ease trade friction on produce imports.
