Advanced Product Labels Key in Food Safety

Oct. 4, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ — In the aftermath of the recent salmonella outbreak, advanced computerized measures are being taken to prevent future food contamination. Dole Food Company has recently integrated high-tech tracking labels so it can quickly locate and stymie the dispersal of contaminated foods, according to the L.A. Times.

Although the adoption of these high-tech measures throughout the agriculture industry is slow, heightening public pressure for enhanced food-safety practices may beckon in a new era of technological advancements in food safety.

The call to update the technology behind food safety is opening the door for a new wave of software development in the realm of agricultural distribution. According to the Times, IBM Corp. is currently in talks with a California growers association to develop a digital tracking system, while Intelleflex Corp. of Santa Clara, Calif., has already begun applying tracking labels to produce grown and sold in Hawaii.
