Polaris to Present at the International Conference on Violence, Abuse & Trauma

Dr. Linda Toche-Manley, vice president of Polaris Health Directions, will present on an innovative outcomes management tool for domestic violence treatment at the 15th annual International Conference on Violence, Abuse and Trauma.

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, Dr. Linda Toche-Manley, vice president of Polaris Health Directions, will present at the 15th annual International Conference on Violence, Abuse and Trauma, hosted by The Institute on Violence, Abuse and Trauma, in San Diego, Calif.

Dr. Toche-Manley will discuss the use of an innovative clinical tool, called Polaris-DV (domestic violence), which provides behavioral health and abuse recovery information to support service planning and the long-term monitoring of women receiving care for domestic violence in medical settings, Family Justice Centers, and domestic violence agencies.

Polaris-DV encourages health care and social welfare providers to move beyond screening for domestic violence to also monitor and treat the physical and behavioral effects of abuse to improve outcomes and reduce medical system costs. With the information the system provides, clinicians can determine the most appropriate treatment and document the high-risk attitudes and behaviors associated with revictimization or reenactment of abuse, as well as the development of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Dr. Toche-Manley will also share current research, which shows that while the long-term physical and emotional impact of abuse is dramatic, with treatment many women can recover and lead productive lives. In support of her presentation, she will provide predictive models that show factors associated with reduction in revictimization and improved resilience.
