Atlanta, GA – A police chase in Atlanta, GA early Friday, June 18, 2010, resulted in the offending driver and the officer receiving injuries, as reported by WSBTV.com.
An early morning chase began on Friday when officers from the DUI Task Force witnessed a Chevrolet Tahoe run a red light. When the driver refused to stop for authorities, police began a pursuit, according to authorities. Officials said the vehicle had been stolen.
The chase ended on West Wesley Road in the Brandon neighborhood, when the fleeing driver stopped the SUV and tried to evade police on foot. The driver ran behind a house and fell, hitting his head. The officer who was chasing the driver ran through some kudzu and disturbed some yellow jackets. The bees swarmed and attacked, stinging his arms and head.
Medics transported the officer to the hospital, where he is expected to make a full recovery. Four other police who helped with the pursuit and arrest were also stung. They too received treatment and were released.
The suspected criminal was transported to the hospital as well, where he was treated for his head injury.
The driver faces multiple charges, including vehicle theft.
