Queens, NY – Two brothers died Thursday, June 17, 2010, after a fast-moving fire swept through their home, as reported by NY1.com. The home was located in Springfield Gardens, Queens.

Sources told reporters that the fire broke out in a middle bedroom of a two-unit home at 141-45 82nd Street, shortly after 9 a.m.

The two boys, aged one-and-a-half and eight-years-old, were being watched by their grandmother at the time of the fire. Their mother was out of the home running errands, according to reports.

The grandmother and two boys escaped the fire and were transported to Jamaica Hospital in serious condition. The boys were declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

A neighbor expressed their regrets to the press, stating, “It’s just sad, you know, that two children’s lives were lost. It’s sad.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fire officials also reported they have not located a smoke detector within the apartment, as of yet, but plan to double-check the damage.
