Baltimore, MD – A May 17, 2010 citation for mold violations from the Baltimore City Health Department, has resulted in fines and a lawsuit for the luxury Harborview Condominiums that overlook Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, as reported by The Baltimore Sun.
The complex is charged with violations ranging from water-damaged ceilings and water-damaged floors to possible mold leaking from the ventilation system. The citation claims the damage is the product of “lack of maintenance to the exterior of the property as well as the ventilation system.”
The Health Department reportedly notified the condo board of three units experiencing mold problems and gave them a 10-day deadline to fix the issue. Upon failing to fix the situation, the department issued three $100 fines, according to a department spokesperson.
A resident who has filed suit against the board told reporters, “The real issue is the problem has been identified for quite some time, but it hasn’t been addressed.” He explained that it is the board of directors’ duty to maintain common building elements, such as the ductwork and exterior walls. The tenant also reported that the system’s HVAC system was “broken up, deteriorated [and] no longer functional,” and allows water to enter.
The complex invited residents and owners to attend a meeting addressing the issue on Tuesday, June 15. Outsiders were not allowed to attend.
