Washington, DC – On Thursday, June 3, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product safety Commission, in cooperation with IKEA Home Furnishings of Conshohocken, PA, announced a voluntary recall of the IKEA Sultan Heidal spring mattresses. The press release advises consumers to cease the use of the mattresses immediately, unless otherwise instructed.
Approximately 1,900 units are subject to the nationwide recall. The products were manufactured in Mexico and fail to meet the federal mandatory open flame standard for mattresses, according to the CPSC and IKEA. As a result of not meeting the standards, the products pose a fire hazard to consumers.
The recall involves IKEA Sultan Heidal spring mattresses sold in twin, full, queen and king sizes. The mattresses are date stamped 0725 through 1014 (YYWW). The name ‘Sultan Heidal,’ supplier number and date stamp are located on a label that is attached to the mattresses. The article and supplier numbers included in the recall are:
Mattress Size Article Number Supplier Number
TWIN 701-095-77 20520
FULL 301-109-69 20520
QUEEN 501-109-73 20520
KING 901-109-71 20520
The products were sold exclusively at IKEA stores across the country from June 2007 and April 2010. They ranged in price from $500 to $1000.
Consumers are advised to contact their local IKEA store for return instructions. Consumers will either receive a replacement or refund.
