New Bedford, MA – A three-car collision left seven injured, six seriously, on Sunday, May 30, as reported by the Sunbeam Television Corp. Two of the vehicles were believed to be racing.

Police reported the crash occurred on Route 18 southbound at approximately 1:05 p.m., as two teen drivers were racing their Hondas. The 18-year-old male driver of a Honda Accord lost control of his vehicle and struck a Volkswagen Jetta. The Jetta was not involved in the race. After the initial collision, the second driver involved in the race lost control of her Civic and struck the Accord.

The 17-year-old female driver of the Civic was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger during the race, 18-year-old Brittany Oliveira, was not wearing a seatbelt and taken to a Rhode Island hospital. She reportedly suffered serious injuries as well.

The Accord was driven by Xaviel Quinones, who was seriously hurt. He was transporting three passengers, including two 2-year-old boys. All four were reportedly injured.

The driver of the Jetta, 36-year-old Sonia Perry of Dartmouth, was seriously injured. It was reported she had a bad neck and trouble with sensations in her hands after the accident.

The drivers of the Hondas face several charges, including speeding, marked lanes violations and racing. Police reported additional charges could be filed pending the investigation.
