Cortlandt New York nursing home theft: Worker steals resident’s debit card

New York personal injury news: A Bethel Nursing home maintenance/laundry worker stole a resident’s debit card, withdrew $2,000.

Cortlandt, NY – An employee of the Bethel Nursing Home was charged Wednesday, May 26, 2010, with first-degree identity theft for allegedly stealing an elderly resident’s debit card and fraudulently withdrawing money, according to The Journal News.

William Brownlee, 26, of 5 Redway Road, Ossining, worked in the facility’s laundry and maintenance department, according to reports. He is accused of using the resident’s debit card to withdraw cash from banks in Ossining, Elmsford and Peekskill, according to police.

Brownlee was arraigned by Cortlandt Justice Gerald Klein and is currently being held at the Westchester County Jail. He was scheduled to reappear in court on Friday, May 28, 2010.

First-degree identity theft is a felony, according to state police.
