Washington, DC – On May 27, 2010, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Lollytogs Ltd., of New York, NY, announced the voluntary recall of Rim Rocka Boys’ Hooded Jackets and Pelle Pelle Girls’ Hooded Jackets. The recall is based on drawstring safety hazards.

Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled garments.

Approximately 23,000 jackets are subject to the recall.

The jackets were made with a drawstring through the hood and the vests have a drawstring through the waist, which can pose entanglement and strangulation hazards to young children. In February 1996, the CPSC issued guidelines for the industry in order to prevent children from getting entangled or strangling from the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments. The guidelines were later adopted into industry standards.

The recall is for boys’ Rim Rocka hooded sweatshirts that came in black or navy blue with red and white trim or gray and white trim. They have a large number embroidered on the front of the sweatshirt. The drawstrings are set in the hood. There is an “RR” emblem on the left shoulder. The tags read “Rim Rocka OFFICIAL SPORTS APPAREL.”

The girls’ jackets have a zipper front that reaches to the top of the hood. The garments come in pink or white with pictures of bottle caps printed on the hood and sleeves. The top right of the sweatshirt reads “Soda Club pelle pelle.” The neck tag says “pelle pelle.” The drawstrings are in the waist. They came in sizes 2T through 14.

The jackets were manufactured in Pakistan and Bangladesh and sold at Burlington Coat Factory stores nationwide. They were also sold at various small retailers. The garments were on the market from February 2008 to September 2009 and retailed for approximately $14.00.

Consumers are advised to immediately remove the drawstrings from the garments to eliminate the hazards. Customers may also return the garment to the place of purchase for a refund or credit.

Additional information may be found at the Lollytogs website, www.ltapparel.com, or through calling the company at (800) 637-9035 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., ET, Monday through Friday.
