Philadelphia, PA – A pedestrian died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, after a two-vehicle collision sent one car over the sidewalk and into the woman, as reported by The Philadelphia Enquirer.
The 18-year-old woman was walking on a sidewalk in North Philadelphia when a car that had been hit by another vehicle ran up on a sidewalk and struck her. Madina Sem died at approximately 9:50 p.m. at Albert Einstein Medical Center, nearly five hours after she was struck.
Police reported that a car heading south on 2nd Street made a left turn onto eastbound Olney Avenue when it struck a car traveling north on 2nd Street. The northbound car then ran up onto the sidewalk on the northeast corner, hitting the woman before striking a porch and eventually coming to a stop. The accident occurred at approximately 4 p.m.
Sem suffered head trauma and multiple fractures as a result of the accident.
Both drivers were taken to Einstein Medical Center and treated for non-serious injuries.
An investigation into the incident is underway, according to police. No charges have been filed.
