NovaStor requests patent for new multi-device restore technology in NovaBACKUP

Automatic management of an unlimited number of local and online storage devices for restore jobs makes NovaStor’s development a true innovation. NovaStor’s multi-device restore technology takes the guess-work out of the restore process and eliminates the need for users to keep track of which device a particular file was backed up to. The technology will be included as part of a feature called “TimeSlider” in the new release of NovaBACKUP home and small business products, as well as NovaBACKUP xSP, an online backup solution for managed service providers.
Several other backup programs, such as Apple’s TimeMachine, already have a point in time restore feature. However, these programs only manage one device at a time. In contrast, NovaStor’s patent-pending multi-device restore technology provides users with the ability to view and sort all backed up files, regardless of when or where they were backed up. TimeSlider can sort backups by time, device or a combination of the two.
With TimeSlider, NovaBACKUP remembers every file it has backed up to local devices and can also query all of the user’s online storage services to check files and dates on the online storage server. Once NovaBACKUP gathers this data, it indexes each file, noting where it has been backed up, when it was backed up, and the different meta data on the file for each backup that was completed. When the slider is moved, the underlying framework for the TimeSlider view changes the parameters of what should be displayed in the file tree. After the user makes the file selections and tells NovaBACKUP to restore, NovaBACKUP creates a list of all the files and devices where it needs to grab each file that was selected, and then runs a job to restore each file from the correct location.
TimeSlider is included in version 11.1 of NovaBACKUP and NovaBACKUP xSP, which was released released on April 15th in the US.
