April 21, 2010 – The video game manual has become obsolete in Ubisoft’s eyes as the French video game giant has decided to stop including manuals in games they sell for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. The change will take place starting this holiday season.
The company said that the manual will now be available in-game, which will both give gamers easy access to information and allow the company to create a larger manual, something that was prohibitive in the offline version.
Ubisoft said that it uses an average of two tons of wood and 15,000 gallons of water per year to make the paper manuals. The entire process creates more than 6,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide.
