UN Rep Acknowledges Flaw in Report on Livestock’s Effect on Global Warming
March 24, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ A UN representative has acknowledged a flaw in a 2006 study on the effect of meat production on the environment, a flaw that exaggerated the impact of livestock on climate change.
The study, Livestock’s Long Shadow, claimed that 18% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions were caused by meat production. This high number meant that the livestock industry caused more emissions than even the transportation industry.
However, a scientist at the University of California at Davis pointed out that the study scrutinized every step of the meat production process, yet the transport industry was only studied for emissions it created when burning fossil fuels.
