Complaints Question Whether Toyota Acceleration Problem Resolved

March 4, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Although the sample size at this point is small, the AP reports the Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 15 complaints from Toyota owners who allege the acceleration problem that was the focus of the Toyota recall has not been fixed in their vehicles.

NHTSA administrator David Strickland said in a statement, “NHTSA has already started contacting consumers about these complaints to get to the bottom of the problem and to make sure Toyota is doing everything possible to make its vehicles safe.”

A Toyota spokesperson said that the company is aware of the post-repair complaints and has asked NHTSA to help Toyota contact the customers in question.

Iowa Rep. Bruce Braley, one of the committee members investigating Toyota, has written a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, questioning the effectiveness of recalls. Meanwhile, Sen. John D. Rockefeller of West Virginia has called for a mandate on “brake overrides,” asking that the system become mandatory for all vehicles sold in the US.
