Sherman, TX-Within just two hours, two wrong-way crashes occurred on Highway 75 in Van Alstyne, which led to injuries and a death on Monday, February 1, 2010. Van Alstyne Police reported that first wrong-way crash occurred around 7:51 while a white female was driving a southbound SUV in the northbound lane of Highway 75 at County Line Road. The SUV then slammed head-on into northbound Toyota Camry, which also was driven by a woman. Both vehicles were reportedly traveling at an estimated 65 to 70 mph when they crashed. Responding emergency medical services rushed both female drivers to Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman in critical condition. Police officials reported that the wrong-way driver was first been spotted in Sherman. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the wreck.
The second wrong-way crash occurred just over an hour after the initial crash, which left one person dead. Bobbi Lalonde, 44, was reportedly traveling southbound in the northbound lane of Highway 75 near Farmington Road in her Mazda pickup truck. The Mazda pickup then hit a Dodge pickup truck in the northbound lanes. The driver of the Dodge reportedly saw the Mazda and tried to swerve out of the way, but the Mazda still managed to clip the Dodge. A Garland resident was killed in the wreck; their identity is currently being withheld, pending family notification. The Dallas Morning News reported that Lalonde is currently held in the Grayson County Jail on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter. Police suspect alcohol was also a factor.
