Wine Time: California Grape Harvest Second-Largest in State’s History
February 11, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ California wineries crushed 20% more fruit in 2009 than 2008, with grape growers netting the second-largest harvest in the state’s history.
Wineries processed 3.7 million tons of grapes in 2009, and the excess of success should yield more availability of the state’s wines as well as cheaper prices for premium and ultra-premium wines.
Of the varieties of wine, chardonnay was produced in the most volume (726,000 tons) while pinot grigio saw the largest increase in production (61% from 2008).
