Baidu Cleared of Wrong-doing in Music Copyright Infringement Case
January 27, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Reversing an earlier decision, a Chinese court has cleared Baidu.com, China’s biggest search engine, of wrongdoing for providing “deep links” to copyright-protected music tracks.
In 2008, Sony BMG, Universal Music and Warner Music won a $9 million award from the search engine in reparations for providing said links, but an appeals court has ruled that providing search results does not breach Chinese copyright law. The music groups, under the umbrella of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), could not identify the actual sites that hosted the illegal music downloads, only targeting Baidu.
