Dallas, TX- Prominent Dallas 18-wheeler accident attorney reports a violent wreck on Highway 43 and Farm-to-Market Road 2625 left an 18-wheeler jackknifed on its side, and its driver trapped inside the severely damaged semi-truck. The Marshall News Messenger reported one man was injured in the Wednesday morning, November 4, 2009 crash.
Around 10:33 a.m., an 18-wheeler logging truck was reportedly traveling northbound towards Marshall on Highway 43, when the semi-truck slammed into another truck which was trying to cross several lanes of traffic on Farm-to-Market Road 2625. The 18-wheeler made desperate attempts to warn the other truck driver that he was approaching by blaring his horn and pumping his brakes, but his attempts were not successful. The logging truck tried to swerve but slammed into the crossing truck, which was described by witnesses as an “explosion.” The logging truck came to a stop in a ditch with portions of the truck turned on its side. Witnesses rushed to the overturned semi-truck and discovered the driver was pinned by the steering wheel in the wreckage, with smoke quickly filling the cab. The source of the smoke was the tractor-trailer’s radiator that was apparently damaged in the wreck. Witnesses were able to diffuse the smoke until firefighters arrived at the scene by breaking out the back window of the cab. The victim reportedly sustained lacerations to his face and complained of pain in his legs, in addition to having trouble breathing due to the smoke inhalation. Marshall Fire Department had to use hydraulic tools to extract the man from the wreckage before he was rushed by ambulance to the Level One Trauma Center at Good Shepard Medical Center in Longview. The driver of the eastbound truck reportedly did not sustain any major injuries. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and District Two County Volunteer Fire Department all responded to the two-vehicle wreck.
