Intel Corp. denied forcing customers to buy its Atom Processors only as a package with its Core Logic Chipset.
According to a quote from Nvidia Corp, one can purchase Intel’s Atom Processors for nettops and netbooks only with its sets of core-logic. Nvidia claimed that not many manufacturers were interested in Intel’s core logic sets.
Intel Corp. however refuted the charges from Nvidia saying that it was not preventing Nvidia from entering the personal computers market in the low cost area. Nvidia’s Ion Platform is being powered by Intel Corp’s GeForce 9400 chipset.
According to statement from a spokesperson from Intel to X-bit labs, Intel sells Atom both alone as well as a package.
Intel also said there was no need for Nvidia to seek a license to manufacture and market chipsets which work in conjunction with Atom Processors from Intel. Nvidia’s GeForce 9400 was recently launched, which is a 9 class processor of graphics. This is a core-logic for Atom Processors from Intel working on single chip which also supports PCI Express 2.0 x 16 and x4 links, DDR3 dual-channel memory, USB, Serial ATA, Gigabit Ethernet, etc.
GeForce features a novel video decoding which is of high definition and hardware accelerated. This processor also supports outputs such as HDMI or Display Port, D-Sub and DVI-I link.
Intel’s core logic sets are far less advanced in performance and features as compared to the GeForce 9400M. Intel’s core logic sets however consumes only half the power as compared to the GeForce 9400M. DDR3, used in GeForce from Nvidia is also very expensive as compared to the DDR2 used in Intel sets.
