Presstek, Inc., one of the foremost manufacturer and marketers of digital offset printing solutions, has come with a path breaking announcement that the print and mail operation for California’s Contra Costa County has acquired Presstek’s PathWay, which will eventually pave the way for a more affordable and highly scalable Web-to-print solution. The announcement has far reaching connotations in the sense that, the process which encapsulates a complete, Web-based, end-to-end print-on-demand workflow and management solution will enable County employees to take advantage of a more cost sensitive and convenient way of purchasing print via a centralized service over the Web round the clock.
David Gould, the shop’s manager speaking on the sidelines of the announcement informed that the project is currently in the pilot stage and involves around 300 County employees. He further elaborated that the major objective behind the exercise is to establish and stamp the company status as the one-stop print shop for all county printing activities, whether the work is done by itself or is being outsourced. The strength of the Presstek PathWay platform lies in its ability to perform ad-hoc work, as well as providing the users with a vast source of templates to work on for commonly printed items such as forms, business cards and stationery with equal finesse, he stressed.
Mr. Gould also added that with the acquisition of the subscription (ASP) model of PathWay, the need to invest in servers and other IT infrastructure has become redundant. Moreover, the acquisition has ensured that the transition was free of hiccups.
Once the system becomes fully operational some 3,000 employees are expected to become its users. Customers stand to benefit a great deal as no stone is left unturned to provide them a problem free ride. Moreover, users can even sole-source procurement through the system while eliminating the need to create and manage bids.
