According to the United States, Pakistan has the duty to act in opposition to the Mumbai terror attacks perpetrators because there was no suspicion that the territory of Pakistan was being used by the non-state actors. As per Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State, she does not think that there are some compelling proofs regarding the Pakistani official’s involvement. The Secretary’s comment came in milieu of the claim of India that Lashkar-e-Toiba, the militant group of Pakistan, was involved in carnage faced by Mumbai.
Rice also commented that both the nations Pakistan and India need to completely cooperate. And if this action will be performed, it can actually bring the culprits to justice. In consideration with the military outfits by using the Pakistani soil in order to carry terrorist activities, Rice said that there are historical difficulties with the Pakistani soil in this regard. Asked about what relationship the Pakistani government and the militant group have, Rice commented that there are some historic ties and it holds no doubt. But this nation is an entirely different place now that is featured with an army power and civilian government which is working very hard to bring to an end the extremism prevalent in Pakistan.
Condoleezza also stated that we all need to remember the fact that this nation has itself faced a lot as far as extremism is concerned. When asked that whether Pakistan is performing enough in order to deal with such terror attacks, Rice said that the Pakistanis are certainly committed to do so and that all are waiting for some action. As per the belief of Secretary of State, the army of Pakistan is restructuring for numerous tasks but it is actually not convenient to move from the type of army Pakistan possesses to the one which can counter insurgency and terrorism.
