The night sky is going to be interesting this month with Venus and Jupiter in conjunction. Later mercury too will join in the fray. It will be a spectacular sight if it is a clear sky today. Venus and Jupiter are slated to come together tomorrow night. Venus is supposed to be the brighter planet and will be visible in the south west the whole of December. Jupiter, which is more gaseous, will be visible in the western horizon.
If one is interested one can view the sliver of a new moon at dusk today , which will of course be more visible tomorrow. The young moons can be sighted at dusk or dawn for the enthusiastic, End of December will be even more exciting for the astronomers as Mercury will also join the duo. The sky is going to be of real interest with the three planets in conjunction. The brighter Jupiter will be to Mercury’s left, and Venus will be far above in the sky.
Dec 12 is a day to look out for. This day the moon will be very close to the earth (356,556 kilometers, or 221,554 miles) .In fact this is the closest since 1993.A day like this would be possible only in 2016. On Jan. 1, 2257, the full moon will be closer than this year’s event — at 356,371 kilometers, or 221,439 miles.
