Terror strikes in Afghanistan

Terror seems to be in the air. The US embassy was the target once again. The US embassy in Kabul once again saw blood shed as a suicide car bomber crashed sending off a powerful blast. It killed 4 Afghani s who happened to be present there and wounded a dozen more.

Witnesses say that the Toyota Corolla was behaving strangely. Even before it reached the embassy it was weaving in and out of the traffic on the busy road around the embassy and crashed into several other cars before exploding. Now in hindsight it is not clear what exactly was the target of the suicide bomber. It could be the NATO center nearby or the embassy entrance gates or a mere desire to scare and cause havoc!
The official spokesman Mark Stroh says that no one in the embassy was hurt. The blast was strong enough to shatter the windows nearby. The car was wrecked totally and the mangled body lay on the road.

“I was across the street when I heard a huge blast, and smoke filled the sky,” said Basir Ahmed, a passer-by. “I ran to help the injured.”

Another bystander, Ahmed Khalid, said he saw the car before the car crashed”It crashed into one car and then another, and then came the big explosion,” he said.

In recent days, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been expressing his frustration with the deteriorating situation across the country.

“We haven’t accepted the international community so our lives would get worse,” Karzai said, suggesting there should be a timeline for ending the conflict.
