Boustany campaigning for federal housing aid for lower Cameroon

Charles Boustany, the Congressman is now in Washington speaking on behalf of the Cameron Parish officials just a week since meeting them. The issue was the fact that lower Cameron was nowhere in the picture of the flood maps drawn up to provide federal temporary housing.
The Congressman addressed this issue when he met the director of FEMA, David Paulison. FEMA will be re assessing the situation even as residents there continue to live on tents put up temporarily.
According to Boustany, sites which are at a adequately higher elevation will be looked at to see if they qualify for the benefit as a part of the V-zone or not. Flood maps released preliminarily is being appealed by officials in Cameron citing that high risk V zone comprises of at least 80 percent of the Cameron Parish.
Boustany went on to say that he was concerned that only the Cameron parish was being looked at and the other areas were not. But, he said, it is now clear that the entire coastal areas of the US was being looked at. He said he was after knowing the science behind how their methods worked and that they were in the process of providing them.
To allow for temporary housing in the V-zone, President Bush will be requested for a six month waiver by Senator Mary Landrieu and Boustany. FEMA in the meanwhile will be providing for transportation for those who are residing outside the V-zone. Boustany said while this may solve problems for some, not everyone would be benefited by it.
