[youtube id=”f-p67DaiKVk”] In a day and age where mindless comedies are churned out one after another, one comedy dares to be funny, but actually entertaining and quite romantic as well. ‘Dostana’ is just that. The expectations for this film are pretty big, for one thing, its a Dharma Production, secondly the music is already burning up the charts, and last but not least the project has big names from Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Priyanka Chopra linked with it. So does ‘Dostana’ live up to expectations? Definitely! Lets take a look how.
‘Dostana’ is a story about two young men(Abhishek Bachchan, and John Abraham) who have a tough time finding a place to live on the sunny shores of Miami. Luck finally shines a bright light on them when they find a beautiful apartment to live in: there is only one problem, no men allowed! They decide to pretend to be in a gay relationship so they can secure the apartment of their dreams. All is well until they meet the third roommate, a gorgeous 27 year old fashionista who works for Verve Magazine(Priyanka Chopra). What ensues next is a laugh riot of miscommunication, a bit of romance, and of course a lot of confusion!
What sets ‘Dostana’ apart from other comedies is that it is a romantic comedies. Like one of the most famous romantic comedies made in Bollywood, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai,’ ‘Dostana’ also deals with the theme of friendship. The end result? A film that tickles the funny bone but also manages to get the emotional factor tied in.
Like earlier mentioned, the music of ‘Dostana’ is already blazing up the charts. Music directors Vishal-Shekhar did it twice this year with ‘Tashan’ and ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and they are back at it with ‘Dostana’. The pick of the lot would definitely have to be ‘Jaane Kyun,’ ‘Desi Girl,’ and ‘Ma Da Laadla’.
Performances are also top notch! After the disastrous, ‘Drona,’ Abhishek Bachchan is in top form again, and definitely steals the show. Everything from his screen presence, comic timing, and facial expressions, makes this one of the strongest performances of his career. John Abraham is equally good. After her strong performance in ‘Fashion,’ Priyanka Chopra proves that she can indeed to a comedy role just as well. Kirron Kher and Boman Irani are perfect for their respective roles and only add to the comedic situations. Bobby Deol is sufficient.
Overall, if you want to watch a film that leaves a good, and warm feeling in your heart, check ‘Dostana’ out.
