An internet movement which has sprung since a ban on gay marriage was voted for by Californian voters last week will stage protests in Los Angeles and in various other places across the country. This protest will be against passing of the Proposition 8 scheduled for today in Los Angeles.
With the medium of the Internet, advocates over the past eleven days have organized for protests in places like Sunset Junction in Silver Lake and Mormon Temple in Westwood. They have also instigated people to boycott businesses supporting Proposition 8.
These efforts are bearing fruit as the country is expects to witness marches protesting the proposition in more than 300 cities across the country. It is not clear though whether these strong tactics will help further the activist’s goal in any way. Activists are aiming at getting the Proposition 8 thrown out by the California Supreme Court and are routing for a new election hoping to convince voters to vote for legalizing gay marriages in the State. There was a strong criticism of the gay marriages by those who are against gay marriages.
Governor also said there was no point for supporters of same sex marriage wasting their time. They must instead work out an effective campaign strategy and try to convince voters.
Supporters of the proposition said the tactics adopted by the boycotters and protesters amounted to black listing and intimidation. There is a lot of speculation making people wonder whether these protests across the country are temporary or the start of a long term movement.
