Good news for Grass Pollen Allergy Sufferers

Study reveals Lymph Node Shots are effective in treating Grass Pollen Allergy. Medicines can be directly injected into the lymph nodes for treating grass pollen allergy according to a study conducted by a Swiss team.

Traditional treatment of this condition is prolonged spanning several years and involves injecting the patient with under the skin shots and is a painful process. With this new method, patients can just undergo treatment for two months wherein they will be administered three shots with very less or no side effects. This procedure is much less painful than the traditional treatment method.

According to the dermatology department, University Hospital of Zurich’s medical director Dr. Thomas Kundig, directly injecting the lymph nodes with allergen reduces the chances of any side effects and also ensures the dosage is effective and enhanced.
Findings of this study were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences by Kundig and his team. According to the authors, 35% of people living in Westernized countries suffer from allergic asthma. Treatment for this was a prolonged three to five year regimen involving thirty to seventy injections depending on the severity of the condition.
Apart from being time consuming, this method also exposes patients to the risk of systemic allergic reactions.
Lymph node shots were administered to a hundred patients in the age group of 18 to 65 by the study team consisting of Americans and Swiss. After a careful study, it was found that patients undergoing the lymph node treatment found it less painful and suffered from much lesser side effects than those undergoing conventional treatment.
