The new president Barack Obama is busy forming his new team. He spent a quiet day with his family and in his private gym however he could not avoid some meetings and a conference call to thank his campaign managers and staff. He has also made the crucial decision of choosing his chief of staff
This is a key post as it carries a lot of weight. It is a power position and he is often a power broker. He has to ensure that the president’s policies are properly executed and he is the entrée point at the Whitehouse. This gives him a lot of clout. This position is chosen with a lot of care and is a coveted one.
The chief of staff is Rep. Rahm Emanuel. It is a key post, which goes to this battle tested loyal Rep. Rahm Emmanuel is 48 and is not new to the White House. He has been held responsible for the success of the party in 2006.he is the favorite of the Democrats because he helped them get their position back in 2006. he is however hated by the republicans for hi partisan views.
Obama plans to have his transition staff based in Washington with a satellite staff in Chicago. His transition period is also to be spent in Chicago with him flying to Washington as and when needed. The transition period is of 2 to 2 1/2 months.
President Bush said Obama “can count on complete cooperation from my administration as he makes the transition to the White House,” He congratulated Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden on what he called “their impressive victory.”
Obama is expected to announce some more important White House appointments.
