Of late, Microsoft has been indulging in tactics in a bid to try and persuade its users of pirated versions of Windows to switch over to original versions. Users, especially from China are upset over this even as desktops with pirated versions started turning black.
As a part of the Windows Office Genuine Advantage program, the company has initiated certain measures which include turning the desktops of the users black by changing the wallpaper with certain updates reminding them to go switch over to a legal copy of Windows.
Users in China are protesting vigorously claiming that Microsoft is unfair in not thinking of its users whose rights are being violated. It is not that the pirated versions go out of action. In fact they are still the same and nothing changes except the user is piqued with his desktop turning black reminding him to go legit every sixty minutes. Whatever wallpaper you may change to, the screen keeps switching to black with a reminder every sixty minutes.
China is not the only nation where this update was issued. Users across the globe who have allowed for Microsoft updates are facing this, though there is not much of a reaction from anywhere else. It is only users in China who is angry with the situation with most of them saying why should Microsoft connect to my PC when it is just mine?
Some professionals ask questions like what happens and who will compensate if we lose some important data if the screen turns black during programming.
