All does not seem to be well on the Afghani border. Nine Afghani soldiers died in an air strike in East Afghanistan. It is believed that the firing was done on the Khost area by US led forces. The Defense ministry says that it was a case of mistaken identity on both sides. It was not however intentional. The firing hit one of the army check posts in Khost on Wednesday morning. Three Afghani soldiers were also hit and injured.
The US military statement says that this mishap occurred when the US led coalition forces were returning from a foray into enemy territory. It was a mistake. Colonel Greg Julian says that the incident needs investigation and it would be a joint one by the US and Afghani officials. The firing occurred due to a mistake.
In addition to this there have been clashes for the last two days between the security forces and the Taliban militants. More than 35 insurgents have been killed along with about three police officers from Afghanistan. There was about a 100 Taliban soldiers involved in the fighting.
